    About

Sally is retiring to Wales. She's been the stable force in our unit, and she'll be a huge loss. She's doing it for all the right reasons, and I envy her! So, I'm making a 'retirement kit'...a box with a (bubble) pipe, crochet slippers (baby ones to go with the kiddy bubble pipe) and this gorgeous blanket to snuggle under in the evenings when it gets a bit chilly, or to spread out on the lawn when having a picnic in the garden. Made in lovely sunny and warm colours, the blanket will reflect her inner sunny-ness and our happy memories.

Notes: I had to change the number of balls of wool. I ordered more daffodil yellow and pillar red, and didn't use all the palest colour.

I've adjusted the number of balls of wool used in the yarns section to the right. I'm disappointed that the pattern was so inaccurate when it came to how much yarn was needed. Oh well, I've got some nice yarn left over in the stash for socks!

Oh I am having a bit of a moment! I followed the amount of yarn stipulated by the pattern, but I'm not going to have enough buttercup yellow if I want to make the clusters! I have made 27 plain squares so far, and I've nearly used up one ball of buttercup yellow ( the colours are listed from F to A in the list to the right). Because of the fact that I will have to order more yarn, I think I'll order 2 balls of buttercup yellow to make sure that at least all the clusters are in the same yellow. I did also notice that there is a typo in the pattern. If you're following it, on page 3 where it says under 'basic plain motif P', complete as given for basic cluster motif from row 6 to end...it actually means row 4 or you won't have the right size square and you'll miss out on some of the colours. I spent ages looking at the photo of the monochrome example at the end of the pattern to make sure I wasn't going mad!
I love the yarn - it doesn't seem to split easily and the colours are spectacul
