This is the best pattern ever. It is totally addictive as I can never predict how the squares will come out.
It is supposed to be knitted in Noro Kureyon, but one square takes most of a ball and on 5mm needles knits up quite stiff. The colours are vibrant, but the in-between ones can be a bit pukey (esp the orange!). I bought 2 balls as a trial,as it's pretty expensive, but I decided to continue in Drops Delight which is pure wool, has a good range of colours and the ball is twice as large (£4 for 100g on Drops website). It is a pretty good match with the Noro and I think I prefer that the colours are a tad more muted. I also used a number of other aran variegated yarns from my stash. Can't help collecting them!
Instead of knitting from both ends of the ball I knitted from 2 separate balls which gave good contrasts.
Found it very helpful to steam the squares out on a check teatowel (iron from centre outwards) to get them all the same size (I pinned the corners)
