    About

It was late December and Christmas was fast approaching. My father was preparing for a ski trip to Everest, and my girlfriend's father a hunting trip to Sarah Palin's backyard (Russia).

I knew I'd better crochet them each something warm and something quick. I found a pattern called The Man Hat by Kate Eastwood, and thought "That's perfect. A hat for men!"

I gave one hat to my father through the car window as he was on his way to the airport, so there is no photo of him wearing it yet, although he sent a text from his satellite phone saying: "Arrived in Nepal. Hat stolen by monkey... Please send another." So I made one more, sent it to the hill station near the base of Everest, and soon received this text: "Received hat. Skied from the summit, hat saved me from frostbite."

While hunting, my girlfriend's father was charged by a Siberian brown bear in the Kamchatka Peninsula. The bear stopped just inches from his face, sniffed the hat, licked it, smiled, turned, and walked away.

Well, that's quite a yarny story you've told ... but it's veracity? Hmmmmm. :) Also, that hat you've listed doesn't seem to be Kate Eastwood's The Man Hat, although if you've made mods, do please share.

The literature major in me loves the tall tale. :)

Hi Denise, the hat in the photo is the same pattern as Kate Eastwoods, only I made it with the ribs going the other way. In the image the bottom isn't folded up. Thanks for looking!

@Eric: Well, that I can certainly believe. Everest would have been quite the stretch. :) I still think you're just trying to create content, but hey, tall unbelievable tales seem to be in vogue. :)
