    About

This charity is in my home county of Yorkshire - hence the Yorkshire title - Knit for Nowt (which means Knit for Free). It asks for knitters to create hand puppets and worry monsters for use by therapists working with abused children. The puppets have two faces - one happy, one sad - and the children can choose puppets to represent them and their family, to help them tell their story. See more at http://www.knitfornowt.org/

What a lovely way to get children to express themselves and a great way to use up those bits of wool.

Thank you Maureen. Those scraps of wool from other projects are certainly used well, and they don't take long either. Great for knitting in front of the TV on an evening. I'm not the fastest knitter in the world, but a basic puppet only takes a couple of evenings. And it's fun thinking of accessories that will be child friendly but which also help bring the puppet to life. And the Worry Monsters can be any colour and format, providing they have a buttoned/zipped pocket or mouth to hold the child's letters or drawings of his/her worries and secrets. A very worthwhile cause!
