    About

When I came across this hat pattern, I really liked it and decided to knit one for myself.
The pattern has very clear easy to follow instructions, it is interesting without being complicated and knits up quickly.
The method of provisional crochet cast on is new to me. i did find it a little bit fiddly picking up the original stitches on my spare needle, folding up and knitting into my other stitches. however i was working with a dark colour in poor light, also working in the round. . The effort however is well worth it as it finishes off the hat very well, resulting in a seamless double brim. with no stitching up to do.
I think this pattern would be suitable for an experienced beginner, and if working the brim proves too complicated, you can always cast on in the normal way, then fold up the brim when finished and sew around the join on the inside.

Used suggested wool, choose 150 Damson, this is a lovely deep, very dark purple. The hat is very cosy and warm to wear,

    Pattern

    Yarns

    Needles & Hooks

    • Circular 3.75mm (US 5) 40cm
    • Double Point 4.50mm (US 7) 10cm
    • Circular 4.50mm (US 7) 40cm
Other : A second circular needle (3.5mm or smaller )is required for picking up the stitches for the brim. Length not important, as it is only used to pick up the stitches, then they are knitted back onto the main circular needle.

    Measurements

    Finished circumference 18" / 46cm unstretched

Notes: Cosy, very comfortable to wear. This is a well designed pattern. Due to the ribbed construction the sizing of the hat is fairly it flexible. so think would fit most average heads comfortably
