I admired Elizabeth H's project with this pattern and decided to try a baby project for my first sweater. My gauge was 4.5” for 22 stitches - twice. Ravelry friends kindly advised me to use a size smaller needles (US 5), but I did not have circulars in that size, so I used my US 6 circular and planned to do math on # of stitches. My US #4 circular is 32”, and I failed at using them for the neck (couldn’t manage magic loop method), so I used my 16” US#3 loosely for neck and sleeve edges. These turned out fine. I got nervous about the age-size ratios in the pattern and asked Mark’s mother for his measurements. Great idea, except that in focusing on the pattern’s stitch-to-inches ratios, I forgot about my gauge being oversize. So the final sweater is wider than I intended, but the baby is growing very fast, so it is not too much of a problem. Pretty pattern and yarn; a pleasure to knit for this beginner.
Samantha's sweater, knitted on a cruise in October 2017.
