    About

This was my third attempt to make a sweater for my Mom. The first two efforts were not good enough to post and I've since gotten rid of even the yarn from the first one. My Mom never saw this third sweater. She passed away shortly before it was finished. It's not perfect but I think she would have liked it.

One skill that I still have difficulty with is when I have to rip back and pick up stitches. The lines on the cardigan are where I've done that. Also someday I would love to try this pattern with the recommended yarn. It turned out well using wool ease but I bet it would be smashing with a more expensive yarn.

    Yarns

    Needles & Hooks

    • Double Point 5.50mm (US 9) 15cm
    • Circular 5.50mm (US 9) 150cm
    • Circular 5.00mm (US 8) 80cm

    Accessories

    • Buttons

    Measurements

    41.75 in

Notes: NOTE: this was knit with two strands of wool ease to make it chunky and the finished bust measurement was closer to 43 in.

Oh, by all means treat yourself to some expensive yarn. Ask for yarn for Christmas and your birthday. I asked for yarn (by brand name) for my birthday last year and my daughter-in-law (who is also a knitter) came through with a whole supply in colors that I would not have picked out myself.

Yes, she would have liked it. Your story brought tears to my eyes. The cardigan is lovely. Can I offer a tip on restarting after you rip stitches out? Let's say you just ripped out several rows and now all the stitches are not on the needles. When you start back up again, use a smaller size needle to gently slip the stitches back. This helps prevent a bulgy looking row. Then, when you actually start knitting again, of course, use the correct size needle. This little trick works especially well with circulars. Happy knitting.
