    About

Loved the pattern and thought it might be a challenge. The biggest challenge was managing to get all the colours. Finally have them all together. I really enjoyed knitting this, it is much easier than it looks. A really clever pattern. I can't add the wool that I used because the site crashes every time I try but it was Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino. I had to find some colours elsewhere as LK didn't stock the whole range.

    Needles & Hooks

    • Circular 2.75mm (US 2) 40cm
    • Circular 2.75mm (US 2) 60cm

    Accessories

    • Stitch Holder
    • Buttons

    Measurements

    55 cm

Notes: The sleeves came out too long, so I had to shorten the navy stripe and just add a band of purple. This was just right. It has come out a lot bigger than 55cm, more like 66cm. In these photos Maisie is 2yrs 6 months and quite tall.

My granddaughter is 6 and desperate for a rainbow cardigan and this fits the bill except for the size! How can I scale it up? Sheila

update! I saw this recently - it is half the size and the texture of felt! Don't use this wool for a run-off-the-feet mother who can only use the washing machine on 40c!!! still looked lovely and gathered comments when worn. Plus, Maisie loves it, which is the main thing

I would really like to make this for my 7 year old granddaughter. Any thoughts on how to adapt the size up that far?

Hi Isobel - I had to abandon this to do the Sparkly Dress but I'm back on it now and up to the navy stripe. It's looking pretty big. Once I've got it off the needle I'll be able to tell better. I'll be there very soon and I'll get back to you with how its measuring up. Depends on her measurements I suppose - I'm doing the 55cm and the pattern goes up to 60. You might find that is enough. The wool weight is a bit more than 4 ply so maybe going up to a DK might give it those extra cms?

I've finished it! The 55cm on 2.75 needles in Baby Cashmerino has come out 26" wide. It would be easy to lengthen it - just make each stripe longer. It's an easy pattern, and great fun.

You could use a thicker yarn and larger needles – you will have to do some swatching to work out the size.
