I took a knitting class with my daughter just as something to do in the summer. I became addicted! Two months later I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I knitted my way through the 5 hour chemo sessions and through the months of recovery when I could barely do anything else. Knitting was so therapeutic, so calming, and it kept my mind creatively on something beautiful rather than the ugly cancer. The Summer Flies shawl was my second project (first project was a ruffle scarf) and although I had to tink sections 5 and 6 three times, it was the perfect project for me. That was four years ago. I still love knitting and it is still my therapy - it is my escape, my calm.. I have knitted many, many things since then, but Summer Fliies will always be my favorite.
