When looking at photos of Rivendell, as depicted in the movie, "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey", it is the blend of nature and architecture that stands out. Delicate scroll work mimics the flowing lines of nature. Everything is intertwined: delicate and beautiful.
It is the beauty of this Elvish design I tried to capture in these mitts. In particular, several images featured a beautiful gazebo, open, airy yet strong in its lines. The sweeping lines of the gazebo are echoed in Gandalf's chair during the [White Council]. Indeed, it is reflected everywhere.
It is the lines of this gazebo I endeavored to capture on the back of the mitt beginning with the base pillars on the cuff, leading into the scrolling cables and twisted stitches up the back of the hand.
