With the colder weather upon us I wanted to create something simple that could be warn throughout the day to keep warm. This cowl was created with a sock weight or fingering weight yarn because I wanted something light and so it would not feel stuffy and I created a larger circle so that it would not feel binding. I called with the Hoot Cowl because the one of the cable patterns appear like owls on a branch. I love owls and with the shorter days and darker evenings I just think of them sitting high up in the trees just watching. I set this cowl up using two stitch patterns. One was found found in a Japanese stitch dictionary and the other is a tree pattern found in Barbara Walkers stitch dictionary. The cowl is worked circular and the first 15 rows are ribbed and then you start with main pattern. Chart 1 is worked first followed by Chart 2 and this is repeated 1 more time.
