Portland Lace is spun from the softest merino wool making it luxurious and light to touch. The final spun thread has been plied together with just enough twist to prevent pilling but in a way to allow the fabric to softly drape. This lace weight yarn will create a wonderfully soft handle that is suitable for all types of knitting and crochet and it can easily be used double for fingering weight patterns. It is particularly well suited to shawl designs.

World renowned designer Melanie Berg is the creative genius behind choosing the stunning Portland Lace colous and the SecretKeeper Pattern. Melanie is widely recognized for modern shawl patterns, attracting thousands of new knitters to shawl knitting as a result. Her contemporary designs often top the pattern charts in terms of popularity. For Portland Lace Melanie has deliberately created a range of subtle, sophisticated greys and blues and neutral colors contrasted with a handful of eye-popping, vibrant brights.

The yarn is in hanks not balls, which doesn't trouble me at all but it's good to know in advance. Knits well - doesn't split- and is luxuriously soft. I'm making a very intricate shawl and the pattern is showing up well. The colour isn't quite what I was expecting/ hoping for though. I thought it would be at the 'blue end' of the grey spectrum but it tends very slightly towards beige and it's knitting up darker than I thought. It's no-one's fault - it's a chance you take with buying on the internet and I 'm sure if I'd hated it I could have sent it back. Plus it may look different when it's washed and stretched out. All in all I'd highly recommend it
