This toy kangaroo mum has a baby joey who is big enough to jump around on his own, but small enough to be carried in mum's pouch when he's tired! I modeled them on the little mob of Eastern grey kangaroos who visit our garden every day, here in Queensland, Australia. I had to make some adaptations to reality – them being toys and needing big fat feet to stand up etc, not to mention the restrictions of knitting patterns.

The toys are knitted on 2 needles, in a smooth 8 ply/DK yarn of your choice – I used grey but fawn colour would be good too. You could use a reddish brown if you wanted them to be red kangaroos (though reds have fatter noses really). They take between 85 and 100 gms of main colour, plus 5 gms pale pink for inside the ears (for both mum and joey together).

(I put in a couple of photos of real 'roos, just so you can see how very cute they are).
