~~~~ Why I Crochet for Charity ~~~~
I began crocheting in the dark ages and have done it off and on as the need has arisen for a scarf, or a baby gift, or a pair of my ever-present "footies". In late October of 2012 I watched with horror as the experience of Hurricane Katrina looked like it was going to repeat itself in Hurricane Sandy. As the storm became more massive and the destruction so overwhelming, I found myself (for the um-teenth time) being poignantly aware of how fortunate I am, and have been all my life.
I decided, on October 29, 2012 as Super-storm Sandy came ashore, at high tide, in the dark, in New York City and New Jersey, to forgo our usual Winter Holiday gift giving. Instead, I sat down at 4:00am and made a pretty sizable donation to the American Red Cross. Then, at least, I felt like I could sleep in a dry bed with a clear conscience.
