I learned to knit as a Girl Scout many years ago and continued in college and as a young adult. I remember making baby lace blankets and layette items for friends. Then I stopped knitting. When my children were at home, before I went back to work, I did embroidery and cross-stitch as well as a lot of sewing. I made a lot of my daughter's clothes when she was young because she was so tall for her age that I couldn't find children's clothes that fit her. There was also my 30-year crocheted afghan, a ripple kit that I started in 1973 and moved around the country for the next 30 years, finally finishing it in 2003 when we settled here. My husband and I watch a lot of TV and I enjoy having my knitting project in my hands to give me some more lofty purpose for sitting in front of the tube. Since returning to knitting just a year ago, I am really enjoying all the projects and possibilities that are in front of me.
