I learned the basics of crochet at age 11. My step-mom was a lefty and she taught me a righty. My very first project was a small doily (I wish I had kept it) that turned out a bit off center but that taught me the beginnings of pattern reading. My friends mother also taught me more, like how to increase around corners and how to count stitches when doing repeat rows for a blanket. I am so glad I learned to read patterns, it has made me versatile with what I can create.
