Knitted skirts, often with matching tops, were a wardrobe staple for girls in the 1950’s. Inspired by a design in the "New Lux Knitting Book (1951)", let this quick-knit updated version in a soy/acrylic blend become your little one’s favourite.
This design features a unique "Crossed Yarn-over Long-tail Cast-on" which provides a lovely stretchy finish to the bottom hem of this skirt. Full instructions with pictures are included for this technique.
The skirt is knit in the round from hem to waist. The 2 straps are knit separately and have buttonholes knit into each end so the straps are fully removable. When worn, the straps should be crossed at the back. Adding 3 rows of thread elastic in the waist provides added fit.
Photo tutorials are included for the "Sewn Bind Off" and "Crossed Yarn-over Long-tail Cast-on".
