Gudrun Johnston
Designer designer-badge

Gudrun Johnston was born in Shetland in the 70's when her mother was running the successful knitwear design company, The Shetland Trader. She spent her early years in Shetland and the rest of her childhood on mainland Scotland. Some 30 years later and now living in the U.S, she has followed in her mother's footsteps by reviving The Shetland Trader name, and has made a niche for herself in the knitwear design industry.

Gudrun often includes aspects of her Shetland heritage in her designs, mostly utilizing traditional lace patterns in a contemporary context. Her first collection, The Shetland Trader - Book One was published in the Fall of 2010 and Knit With Me - A Mother and Daughter Collection with Quince & Co yarn company came out in 2012.

Gudrun frequently travels back to Shetland, where her father currently lives. She has attended and taught at the annual Wool Week in Shetland for the past 4 years.
She travels throughout the US and abroad for teaching and industry related eve
