I taught myself to knit as a child (I was left-handed so my mother gave up on me in despair) and knitted first for my dolls (oh, my poor mother having to make up those misshapen early efforts!) and then later for my children, husband and family - but then gave up when hand-knitting went out of fashion. Recently have turned back to it with the imminent birth of a new grandchild - I'm amazed that after the 2 strokes I've had, the brain still remembers at least some of the skills learnt in childhood! Enjoying it very much and hope to progress further. Meanwhile my other interest is hand-worked patchwork and quilting, though at the latter, again the enthusiasm is probably greater than the skills...
